RIP Dan Peek In Vietnam, music was was our constant companion. No iPods, Walkmen or other devices--just the USS Oklahoma City (CLG-5) ship's radio, spinning vinyl and passing along new songs from AFR. When we first heard "Horse With No Name", we thought it was a Neil Young cut. Turns out it was from this band "America"-- three Army brats (how apropos) who had started a band in England. Dan Peek, Dewey Bunnell and Gerry Beckley's "Horse" and Neil Young's "Heart of Gold" became entwined in our hit list.
I recently heard golfer Johnny Miller say, "It's not what you achieve in life as much as it is what you overcome." Dan beat his demons with considerable talent and and an active Christian faith. He wrote that faith into his music with songs like "Lonely People", which we play in church on a regular basis, and which helps to define my faith.
Rest easy, brother--and well done. See you on the other side...
