THE WHEEL

“Songwriting--it's a few basic rules, then perceptive listening.”

                                                                    Crow Johnson

On Monday, September 7, I walked the Mackinac Bridge from St. Ignace, MI to Mackinac City--a five mile hike with 34,000 other pilgrims. Labor Day is the only annual opportunity for this trek. The Bridge is the longest suspension bridge in North America, consisting of 42,000 miles of cable for its structure and support.

Why?

First, because it was a bucket list item for me (acro-uncomfortable).

Second, because fodder for writing songs comes from personal experience. Walking, watching and listening all create opportunities for subject matter, form and rhythm in a new song.

Experience--its the breeding ground for your next great work.

Thanks,

Dansby
